  Notes:

• Both James Knight & Emily Charlotte Harding had each been married once before, prior to their marriage in 1898.
  
• From 1881-1901 James's occupation is listed as 'gamekeeper' on most census returns. When I contacted the local manor at West Dean, they had no knowledge of him being employed there. Could James have been a poacher?
  
• It is rumoured that Emily Charlotte Cawte nee Harding was James Knight's housekeeper prior to their marriage.
  
• James died from complications after accidentally shooting himself in the leg while cleaning his gun.
