• Victoria Police Gazette Beales, Eliza Assault On 1861 Jul
  Felonies & Offences Not Otherwise Described:
  Joseph Gorry is charged, on warrant, with assaulting Eliza Beales, at Irishtown, Geelong, on the afternoon of the 15th inst. The offender is about 28 years of age, but looks younger, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, slight build, dark hair & complexion & small dark whiskers & moustache; a butcher; has appearance of a jockey; wore dark coat, cord trousers & brown wideawake. His father also a butcher, resides in Chilwell. He is supposed to have gone to Ballarat 23rd July 1861. See Polce Gazette 25th July 1861 p. 280 John Gorry, charged with assaulting Eliza Beales, surrendered himself to the Newtown police on the 12th inst. & was subsequently discharged by the bench. 15th August 1861.

  We are presently to have a new industry, or we should rather say, perhaps, an extension of an old one, established in our midst. The fine premises in Ryrie -st., occupied by Mr Charles Andrews, are, so far as the upper portion is concerned, about to be converted into a large clothing factory by Mr William Beales, the well known tailor, of Little Ryrie-st., At the outset nearly one hundred hands will be employed, but it is contemplated that the warehouse will soon work up to a position that will afford employment to two hundred persons. Mr Beales will manufacture for Mr Charles Andrews, who has removed his business to Melbourne, and for other firms.

• Geelong Advertiser - Monday 18th Septermber 1905
  The death occurred yesterday at his residence "Cambridge Cottage", Nicholas St., Chilwell, of Cr. Wm. Beales of the Newtown & Chilwell Borough. Deceased who was 72 years of age had a severe attack of influenza some weeks ago, and it culminated early last week in a paralytic seizure. He lingered in a state of collapse during the week , and no hopes were entertained of his recovery, death occurring peacefully yesterday. Deceased was one of the veteran councillors of the district, having sat in the Newtown Council for 23 years continuously as representative of the South Ward. He resided in his late place of abode for nearly 50 years and used to speak with some feeling of the state of the then Kardinia Ward of the town council before the secession in 1858. He was also a veteran artillery man and was a member of the old rifle corps out of which the present Artillery was formed. He founded the firm of Wm. Beales & Sons, military tailors, but for some years past took no active part in the business. Deceased was also well known in Fire Brigade circles and was a member of the Loyal Geelong Lodge M.U.I.O.O.F.
   
• Geelong Advertiser - 20th September 1905
  The remains of the late Cr. Wm. Beales were interred yesterday with military honours. The coffin was carried on the Geelong Fire Brigade's steam engine and covered with the Union Jack; the cortege was headed by the Geelong Artillery Band playing the Dead March. Members of the Town, Newtown & Geelong West brigades followed in that order and behind them a good muster of artillery men. A procession of 27 vehicles followed the funeral, the members of Newtown & Chilwell Borough Council occupying front position. There was a large assemblage of spectators in the main streets, through which the funeral passed, and at the graveside there was also a large gathering. The coffin bearers were Treasurer C. Thomas and Firemen E Battye, P. Singleton and C. Steel; and pallbearers were Foreman Patterson (G.B.F.) and Lieutenant Hardy (N.& C.B.), Messrs. K. Sutherland & J.R. Tuffs (representing the B. of N. & C.), Messrs. R. H. Senate and J. C. Taylor (representing the M.U.I. O. O. F.) and Sergeants J. Leighton & E. Buck of the Artillery. The Rev. H. Kelly read the burial service and Messrs. W. B. King & Son were the undertakers.
