• 1864-1868:- Restaurant at Government St, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada - restaurant was burnt to the ground in 1866 but rebuilt, only to burn down again in 1868 at which time both Daniel & Jane were charged with arson with intent to defraud.

Strangely, Catherine left her estate to her ex-husband Daniel, nearly 15-20 years after their divorce!
Daniel was first bankrupt in 1848 (Toronto), he was then declared insolvent in Melbourne in the mid part of 1860, again in 1863 Daniel is being noted as a Bankrupt in British Columbia, Canada and he was lastly declared insolvent in Apr 1879 back in Melbourne, Australia. In 1882, weeks before his death, Daniel's family appear in the paper as destitute and in need of charity, it is noted in this article that he has 'well-to-do' relatives (I assume they mean Jacob, his brother) who clearly doesn't have any contact with his brother at this time.

• Jane Elizabeth NORTHCOTT married Daniel Cleal, as Jane Elizabeth PROSSER, the certificate claimed she was a widow and that he was a widower.
• Jane Northcott 1st married Thomas Harford PROSSER in 1859, Melb.
• Jane had two children by her first husband; Mary Prosser (b. 1859 no father noted) & Evelina (b. 1862, whose birth puts in doubt the 'Carolina', Daniel junior noted in his deposition 1912)
• There is no evidence, as yet, for what happened to Thomas Harford Prosser or the two daughters Jane had by him, aside from the birth indexes, they don't seem to appear in the Victorian records.
