Notes:
According to Paul Karl Sandow's marriage certificate , he was born in Berlin , Prussia , sometime around 1839 , to parents Karl George Sandow ( a baker in Germany )and Calas?ta Sandow (nee Sandow)
A birth cert. from Germany shows Paul Karl George Sandow , Father Karl George Sandow and Mother Valesca Albertine Sandow (nee Sandow) Born on the 2.11.1839 and Christened on the 24.11.1839 at St. Georgen Church , Brandenburg. This birth date was confirmed when Paul had himself naturalised at the age of 71, in Victoria, Australia
In 1870 , Paul immigrated to Australia . He always lists his occupation as cook , on all pertinent certificates , in Australia - Shipping: June 1870 on board the Samarang, Paul Sandow age 30, General Trader, foreign (ship also confirmed from Paul's naturalisation papers)
I do not know where he spent his first years in Australia. In 1876 , he working as a cook , at Yanga Lake Station , just outside Echuca , Victoria. He later worked for the Abersnot company , in Echuca and Gunbower , receiving a silver fob watch from them , upon his retirement. This is currently in the possession of one of his descendants
At the age of 37 , Paul married Julia Sophie Louisa Ohrt. Julia was 26 , at the time
Julia and Paul had already had a daughter , prior to their marriage and Julia must of been about three months pregnant with Hans Paul , when they did eventually wed
At the time of their marriage , Julia and Paul were renting a wood cottage , on crown land .( As shown in the 1875 -1876 rate books.) Although on their marriage cert. they both gave their 'usual and present residence' as Yanga Lake Station , N.S.W
When Hans Paul was born, Paul & Julia listed that they had married 16 Aug 1871 (the date of Julia's frst marriage). It's possible they may have done this to cover up Ida's illegitimacy and the fact Julia was pregnant with Hans before their actual marriage in 1876.
In 1880 , they rented a shop in Goulburn Rd. , Echuca , from W. Moor . Paul still lists himself as a cook. This shop may possibly have been a bakery of some kind.
In 1887 , they moved to Mitchell St. , Echuca. This was a wood house they rented from Alfred Bartlett. On this rates notice , Paul listed himself as a baker
In 1902 , Julia was paying the rates on a house on the corner of High and Eyre St's , Echuca. She was listed as the owner of this property. In 1903 this property was sold by Paul and the family moved to Western Australia for a number of years, before coming back to Victoria via the Wimmera.
Paul, Julia and their son Fritz are listed as voters in Perth, West Australian voters rolls in 1901 and 1906, by 1909 - 1913 they are listed at Koondrook, Kerang in the Wimmera. In 1914 they are living in Carlton, Victoria.
On Paul's death certificate they list Louisa (Julia's child by her first marriage) as his child , which she wasn't

FRITZ CARL MURRAY SANDOW, b. 1885_[20], Gunbower, Victoria - d. Feb 1953_[20], South Melbourne, Victoria - m. 1925_[20], Victoria to Nancy HOEY (the daughter of William Hoey & Caroline Ohrt, Nancy & Fritz were 1st cousins, in 1967, Nancy died under the name SWAINSTON)


1st Marriage 6 Aug 1871_[21], Murchison, Victoria	William COSGROVE b. abt 1843, Belterbut, Cavan, Ireland d. disappeared between 1872 & 1875, death unknown

Notes:
Julia had , in fact , been married before , in 1871 to a William Cosgrove (I have yet to find out what happened to him) , although she wrote that she was a spinster , on her marriage to Paul Karl Sandow. She had one child to Mr. Cosgrove, who died at the age of ten.

Louise Julia, b. 15 Dec 1871_[21], Murchison - d. 26 Feb 1882_[21], Echuca, Victoria (typhoid fever)
Louisa for some strange reason had two birth certificates , one listing her surname as Ohrt , the other listing her surname as Cosgrove. She died in Echuca at the age of ten and was buried as a Sandow on the 27.2.1882.

The brothers of the Loyal Rodney Lodge and friends of Paul Sandow are requested to follow the remains of his late daughter, to the place of interment, the Echuca Cemetery. Funeral to leave Echuca at 3pm. This Day.
Insolvency Notice:- 22 Aug 1884
In the court of Insolvency at Echuca, Midland District. - In the estate of PAUL SANDOW, of Gunbower, in the colony of Victoria, cook.
Notice is hereby given that a general meeting of creditors in the above estate will be held at the Court House, Echuca, on Friday the 29th day of August A.D. 1884, at the hour of Eleven o'clock in the forenoon, for the purposes set forth in section 53 of the Insolvency Statute 1871.
Dated at Echuca the 16th day of August 1884. G.C. MORRISON. Chief Clerk.

Echuca newspaper Apr. 1896:
' The friends of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Sandow are respectfully requested to follow the remains of their late dearly-beloved daughter , Ida, to their last resting place, the Echuca cemetery. The funeral to leave their residence, corner of Eyre St. and Sutton Streets, at 3 o'clock THIS DAY (Wednesday).

Commencing at 2 o'clock.
McKenzie and CO. are favoured with instructions from Mr. Paul Sandow, to sell by public auction, on the premises, corner of Eyre and Sutton streets.
All that piece of land, being Crown allot. 11, of section 45, town and parish of Echuca, containing 1/4 of an acre, on which is erected a four roomed w.b. house, iron roof, with a detached kitchen of w.b.
Also at the same time and place the whole of his household furniture and effects.
Everything is for absolute sale, as Mr. Sandow is leaving Echuca.
Remember the date -- TUESDAY, 13th JANUARY. 1195
19 Jan 1903:-
On Tuesday last we held a sale on account of Mr. Paul Sandow of his property situated in Echuca East, which we sold at Ł90 to Mrs. Simmie ; also the whole of his house hold furniture and effects at satisfactory prices.
